My work highlights the simple moments of life that become overlooked and shadowed by more significant obligations. More times than we may realize, we become wrapped in our responsibilities and lose sight of our dearest moments. My work focuses on the simple beauties of life that we often forget or ignore, such as my cat's enjoyment of her owner's company or my desk's collection of trinkets that reflect all my past and current interests. By welcoming my viewers to slow down and reflect, my pieces encourage the celebration of our individual lives and expand our appreciation for the things that surround us. I am interested in capturing and transforming these moments into physical pieces that I cannot ignore or forget.
Growing up in a broken family, I was forced to mature and take on responsibilities that are not usually expected of young children. The weight of these responsibilities often left me feeling like I was an adult, but in a child's body who had to focus on surviving and navigating life. By preserving new moments, my work serves to reclaim the time that I lost by taking advantage of the time that I have now.
My work consists of paintings that use both acrylic and watercolor paint, with specific color palettes to depict the mood and feelings of these everyday moments in my life. Acrylic paint’s boldness and opacity makes these moments concrete, while watercolor paint’s transparency evokes a sense of remembering. The combination of these two mediums contrast the fast, fleeting time and the still, precious moments.
